2012 “International Stage Design Students’ Works Exchange (ISDSWE)” activities

Preliminary Planning

The Central Academy of Drama and OISTAT Education Commission will join efforts to organize the 2nd ISDSWE international exhibit of students' stage design works, workshop. All schools, represented in the Education Commission will be invited to submit examples of student projects in the areas of scenography, set, costume, lighting design, sound design as well as in the fields of theatre technology, scenic painting, make-up etc.

Schools directly represented at the EduComm, and schools recommended by EduComm members, to represent their country, and schools that have applied to become an associate member of EduComm will be invited.

The Central Academy of Drama will invite two representatives (one educator and one student) from each participating school to visit in Beijing during the exhibit and workshop. Accommodation costs for 5 days (October 24th to 28th) will be covered by the hosts. The travel expenses will be the responsibility of the guests.

There is a limit of 60 people from outside China (teachers and students) who can attend, as well as 30 Chinese colleagues and students.

In conjunction with the exhibit the organizers intend to create a parallel program of lectures, short workshops, portfolio review sessions and panel discussions with lecturers from the Education Commission and the participating schools.

The project will provide a forum for exchange of knowledge and ideas between schools from across the world and The Central Academy of Drama. The initiative aims to foster excellence and innovation in all disciplines of performance design and education through intercultural collaboration. The project is conceived to reach its audience on two levels:

- the exhibit will promote the achievements of the schools to a wide range of students worldwide through internet mail, and general word of mouth.

- the program of lectures will provide opportunity for a group of schools’ representatives, students and teachers, to meet and discuss ideas and methods.

The Central Academy of Drama will act as a main organizer and host and will provide the funding and the logistics for the project.

The design exhibit will take place October 25th to November 2nd 2012 in the gallery of The National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. The display will be in the form of printed panels as well as three-dimensional models.

The Education Commission will act as co-organizer and will provide it's network and expertise in organizing international educational projects.
