On November 4th, the opening ceremony of the 2018 BIB was held by ISDSWE at the Changping campus of the CCAD (the Central Academy of Drama, Beijing China). Bert Dettermann (the Chairman of the OISTAT), William Charles Kenyon (the Chairman of the OISTAT Education Commission), Michael Ramsaur(the Honorary Professor OF CCAD), Marina Raytchinova (the executive Commission member of the OISTAT), Kevin Rigdon(USITT), Sun Daqing(the Principal Assistant of the CCAD,the Co-Chairman of the ISDSWE), Zhangqingshan(the director of the Dpt.Stage Art of the CCAD), Liu Xinglin (the Chairman of the China Center of the OISTAT), Tian Dan(the vice director of the Dpt.Stage Art of the CCAD), Zhang Hongchen(the vice director of the Dpt.Stage Art of the CCAD), and so on, attended the opening ceremony. More than 50 teacher-student representatives from 18 worldwide schools and institutions and more than 300 teachers and students from the CCAD participated.

In his speech, Sun Daqing said that ISDSWE exhibition has been held for four sessions so far, and has become another international top major professional Exhibition & Competition under the OISTAT after the World Stage Design(WSD). ISDSWE's activities have been supported by the four successive chairmen of e of the OISTAT Education Commission,three of them are on the scene today, proving that the BIB is the biological child of the OISTAT Education Commission.
In Bert Dettermann's speech, he said it was an uplifting platform hosted by the CCAD and the OISTAT Education Commission as the Co-organizer. Teachers and students from universities and institutions around the world can exchange what they have learned at the BIB. Drama and its many related aspects and areas of work cannot be separated from cross-cultural and interdisciplinary cooperation.

William said the OISTAT and the OISTAT Education Commission exist for promoting the participation of individuals, coalitions and institutions in theatrical creation and theatrical education. He is pleased that the CCAD continues to host this excellent event. Since 2011, the BIB is the second time, but also the fourth ISDSWE major significant event.
Zhang Qingshan said that the Dpt.Stage Art of the CCAD has a long history and a deep tradition, is the first batch of professional disciplines of the CCAD, its graduates are serve in many major institutions, theatre groups and universities all over the world, this indicates the highest standard of stage art education in China. I hope that the worldwide excellent schools and students could come to this platform to show their talent.

ISDSWE(International Stage Design Students Work Exchange)is a stage design education platform which was set up jointly by the CCAD(Central Academy of Drama, China)and the OISTAT (International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians) Education Commission in 2010, which was headquartered in the CCAD, aiming at cultivating and recognizing the outstanding talent of stage design students through the excellent works competition selected from the courses of schools and institutions around the world, as well as Comprehensive Stage Design Workshop. In accordance with the decision taken at the annual meeting of the OISTAT Education Commission in 2013, the exhibition was named BIB (Beijing International Biennale), which will be held every two years to develop and attract the participation of more outstanding schools and institutions.
1, Exhibition & Competition: Display of outstanding student works from schools and institutions from all over the world, and official catalogues publication in Chinese and English. The BIB exhibition sets one Outstanding Emerging Designer-Premier Crystal Award alternate name The Crystal Cube, three Emerging Designer Excellence Awards, and five Emerging Designer Honorable Mentions. Awards are appraised and elected by the international jury committee.

2, Comprehensive Stage Design Workshop: the workshop aims to provide visiting international students and teachers in China with an opportunity to get along and make small performance works together. The workshop is held in the theater of the CCAD and the works will also be presented to students and teachers. The spirit is to build a bridge across different countries, cultures and languages, and to promote the stage-design as an international language.

BIB Exhibition was settled in the White Space Hall, of the Stage Art Teaching Building . A three-day Comprehensive Stage Design Workshop event and lectures were held during the event. The theme of this year's workshop is " Theatric Vision:Involve and Interpret Drama ", with 4 sub-questions: Natural Elements as characters, Emotions as visual & aural elements, Transformation of Known Objects, Landscape Elements as characters. Students from Chinese and foreign colleges and universities worked together under the guidance of international experts to complete the comprehensive works and staged in the Small Theater, and then carried out the International Teacher Corps on-site commentary.

At the Awards Presentation & Closing Ceremony held on the evening of November 7th, the award rules of an international jury composed of Bert Dettermann, Sun Daqing, William C. Kenyon, Michael Ramsaur, Marina Raytchinova, Kevin Rigdon, Zhang Qingshan and Liu Xinglin were announced, followed by the announcement of the winning list and the awarding. Students from 7 universities and schools win awards.

In his closing remarks, Sun Daqing said that in the workshop show, we saw the joint efforts and wonderful presentation of all teachers and students, which is one of the important and core contents of BIB, a new form of stage art education curriculum have been proven in fact, which has been highly appraised by participants and international experts in previous practice, and we will improve and continue it.The international BIB's awards jury members have shown a high sense of responsibility, fair and just attitude, and love of stage art education through strict procedures.
In his closing remarks, Bert Dettermann said that 4 days intense and orderly lectures and seminars were wonderful, and the international participants were eager to learn, exchange experiences, study discussions and establish contacts. Impressed with the different design teaching processes of the four groups of workshops, it is very important to examine the cultures of others and other countries. Thank you to the international teachers for their efforts to organize activities for their classmates. BIB and iSTAN's two exhibitions reflect each other and both are very exciting. Thanks to the Organizer CCAD’s excellent event preparation organization; OISTAT encouraged and delighted to see a variety of theatrical performances from all over the world across borders and disciplines, and I look forward to further cooperation between the international institutions and OISTAT in the future. It is expected that in 2020 we will also meet in Beijing, China.
