From October 10 to 13,2014, China's Central Academy of Drama organized a series of events regarding 2014 International Stage Design Students' Works Exchange (ISDSWE) and Beijing International Biennale （BIB）, following a grand opening ceremony at the Academy's Experimental Theatre. Michael Ramsaur as Executive Vice Chair of OISTAT & honorary professor of the Academy, Ian Evans as chair of OISTAT Education Committee, Marina Raytchinova as chair of OISTAT Executive Committee, Professor Sun Daqing as head of Stage Design Department in the Central Academy of Drama, Professor Zhang Qingshan as deputy head of Stage Design Department in the Central Academy of Drama, Professor Cao Lin as chair of China Stage Art Academy Attended and Addressed the opening ceremony. Professor Li Wei as head of Stage Design Department in NACTA, Professor Aorilige as head of Art Department in BFA, Professor Liu Yonghua as deputy head of Stage Design Department in STA, Professor Tian Dan as deputy head of Stage Design Department in the Central Academy of Drama attended the opening ceremony.

The ceremony also welcomed representative from Royal welsh college of Music&Drama (UK), University Of London Wimbledon College Of Art (UK), Stanford University (USA), Auburn University (USA), Pennsylvania State University (USA), Moscow Art Theatre School (Russia), York University (Canada), National School of Theatre Arts (Mexico), Europäische Medien und Event Akademie (Germany), Academy of Fine Arts Warsaw (Poland), Instituut Lichtontwerpen (Holland), Toneelacademie Maastricht (Holland), Hungarian University of Fine Arts (Hungary, National Academy of Art, Sofia (Bulgaria), Faculty of Technical Sciences, Novi Sad University (Serbia), Universidade Estadual do Parana Federal University of Paraná (Brazil), University of Melbourne Victorian College of the Arts (Australia), Chung-Ang University (Korea), Seokyeong University (Korea), De La Salle University College of St. Benilde (Philippines), and Central Academy of Drama, Shanghai Theatre Academy, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, National Academy 0f Chinese Theatre Arts, Beijing Film Academy, Beijing Dance Academy of China. More than 90 teachers and students from 26 Colleges in globe and more than 300 teachers and students from the Central Academy of Drama attended opening ceremony.

After opening ceremony there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony held in the exhibition hall. International exhibition works from students in 26 college including Stage Design, Scenic Painting, Lighting Design, Make-up Design, Costume Design and Puppet Design. Utilize design sketches, design model, photo and description to shown the process and product in a variety way, tried to reflect all national or area of stage art education features, also show the contemporary development trend and achievement in world stage design education to society.

The night in October 10, Michael Ramsaur held the 2014 ISDSWE workshop, this time the theme was "Silk Road", both students from any countries were divided into two group, each of them have three major mentor to conduct, help them during the three days from concept to show their creation. Within three days, they get together to complete the stage design, lighting, costume and performances at East Campus Classroom Building. All students from the Central Academy of Drama active communicated with foreign students to create a wonderful creative atmosphere.

The afternoon in October 10, Zhang Qingshan Professor of Central Academy of Drama had a lecture in our college East Hall of Experimental Theatre about Artistic Rendering of Opera Scenography. Professor Zhang make example recently works, such as Tosca, La Traviata, L'elisir d'amore at NCPA and shared his creative or practice experience and the feeling in cooperation with foreign designers. And from the scenery material angle reflection and observation to study the relationship between technology and art. The morning in October 11, Elena Drevaleva Professor of Moscow Art Theatre School had a lecture about Modern Theatrical Lighting Design and Contemporary Russia Lighting Design Education System, and show the lighting technology system and pictures of the Bolshoi Theatre for share their concept and system in lighting work. The afternoon in October 12, Tian Dan Professor of Central Academy of Drama had a lecture about Make-up Education System in Central Academy of Drama, show the Make-up Design education from first start in 1950s, from Classic Chinese style, Classic foreign style, special effects make-up and some aspects of course content. Combine "learning" and "using" in teaching, enriched students creative experience and feedback. The morning in October 13, Joseph Mercurio professor of University of Melbourne Victorian College of the Arts had a lecture about collaboration in Lighting Laboratory Work with 1:25 Model. By auditory, gustatory, visual aspects enable students begin to imagine and emphasis on lighting design ideas "feeling" and cooperation with other departments was important. Four professors' lectures received significant praise from audiences.

This Beijing International Biennale added "Outstanding Young Stage Designer Award" and "Outstanding Young Stage Designer Nomination Award", Michael Ramsaur as chair of International Jury Committee, Ian Evans, Marina Raytchinova, Xu Xiang, Liu Xinglin, Sun Daqing, Zhang Qingshan as member of International Jury Committee selected from more than 300 students work.

The night in October 13, stage design students from different countries take two performances of Silk Road to audiences at the Black Box Theatre of the Central Academy of Drama. Two performances in richly rendered on the stage, received a passionate response from teachers and students present. This activity focused on showing the comprehensive in stage design, and integrating body style, music with visual art, reflected the feature of stage design which was spatial, live-ness and so on.

After the workshop performance, Professor Sun Daqing held the awarding ceremony, International Jury Committee took awards to winners. The most important "Outstanding Young Stage Designer Award" was by Yulia Pichugina of Moscow Art Theatre School, Ian Evans as chair of OISTAT Education Committee and Professor Liu Xinglin gave the "Crystal Cube" for her. "Outstanding Young Stage Designer Nomination Award" won by Adrianna Golebiewska of Academy of Fine Arts Warsaw, Eero Erkamo of University of the Arts Helsinki and Liao Shifu of Central Academy of Drama, Marina Raytchinova as chair of OISTAT Executive Committee gave them award medals.

Students participated in discussion shared their experiences in the activity and harvest. Professor Michael Ramsaur gave a high evaluation of the activities, that students could achieved such a result very surprise in just three days, and commended them are able to collaborate each others. In particular, he said he is very grateful to President Xu Xiang' direct leadership and full support in the Central Academy of Drama. Professor Marina Raytchinova and Professor Sun Daqing had speak about different meaning of this activities on summarized, both agreed that this workshop adding more integrated elements of drama, meaningful to students ability to understand space, development of visual arts, and hope ISDSWE activities' spirit and the friendship among international institutions will be continue.

The ISDSWE website for communications has come into service since May, 2011, the BIB APP and Weixin Platform of ISDSWE and BIB have come into service already since Sep,2014. Bi-lingual version of the book that has been published, 2011 International Students’ Work of Stage Design，2012 International Students’ Work of Stage Design, 2013-2014 International Students’ Work of Stage Design for new.

The 2014 ISDSWE and 2014 BIB were absolutely no doubt a huge success. The exhibition and publication, authorized by ISDSWE, had gained large-scale recognition and reputation worldwide. Teachers and students from the world across the language problem to work together more closely and bring the substantive outreach in workshop. OISTAT Education Committee and all the attending members unanimously agreed, such workshop programs proved worthwhile to be further developed and explored by all OISTAT members, scholars, and staff members of art institutions all over the world, and expressed great expectation with 2016 ISDSWE and BIB.
